Ninja Training
In order to undergo Ninja training you need to cover three important areas: 1. Find a martial arts class geared towards ninja training. This may be difficult at first as many schools may not outright advertise "ninja training", rather look for key words like "Ninjutsu". Or inquire within any kung fu schools about studying a form of martial arts similar to that of ninja training. Some schools will have separate classes set aside specifically for ninja training, or offer similar arts where you can get your feet wet before getting further involved in finding a Ninjutsu school or academy. 2. Read the history of Ninja. Ninja training is also about learning the art and history of ninjas, so that you have a background and can better understand the art.

Martial Arts, Your Kids, and Your Money
Kids love martial arts and martial arts schools love kids but many schools just love your money! Overhead in many martial art schools is enormous. They need a lot of space to fit a lot of students. Sort of a catch 22. In order to be able to afford such a space, the owner will need to guarantee that he will make the rent each month. To do this, he will ask you the parent of the potential student to sign the dreaded contract. Many contracts will lock you into payments for up to 3 years. Chances are your child will loose interest after a couple of months. What then? Who wants to make payments for another 2 1/2 years for nothing? When looking for a school for you child, never sign a contract longer than 6 months.

Rubber Guard - The Biggest Mistake I See Applying Rubber Guard
Does your foot hang off the side when playing Rubber Guard.... Its 6.30am and my training partner Liam and I are at the gym. We're training Judo grips, then some randori before working ground. Whilst drilling Rubber Guard I came to the realisation that the biggest mistake people make with Rubber Guard is trying to yank their leg up high without the oppo site foot posted firmly on the hip - why I really don't know as Liam has a pretty mean Rubber Guard! People tend to rush to grab their shin ASAP. The key is to refer back to Mastering The Rubber Guard available at the link below. When you're struggling to move your hips against someone who knows you are going for rubber guard or your flexibility isn't that great, then this is what you need to do to avoid that useless other leg from hanging across the back (and a lot of guys will stack into you then and make you think Rubber Guard sucks when it doesn't), In Mastering the Rubber guard, go to page 139 to a position called the Exhumer.
Ancient Greek Fighting Techniques
Asia is probably one of the first things that come to mind when most people think of martial arts. That makes perfect sense, because this was where many of the most famous and popular fighting arts were born. From Judo to Jiu Jitsu, Karate to Taekwondo, the list of hand-to-hand combat and fighting styles that came from Asia seem endless. But did you know that it is possibly Greece and not Asia that created one of the oldest martial arts in the world? This fighting style is known as Pankration. Not only did it influence many fighting styles around the world, it is still being used by fighting enthusiast to this day. You'll find that much of the world's best hand-to-hand combat and fighting styles are very similar to the Greek fighting techniques.
Do Martial Arts Schools Create Followers or Leaders?
In previous articles I've asked if dojos are cults. I've questioned the reasonableness of permitting instructors to inflict injuries on students. I have also asked if we would be served better by eliminating the belt system of promotion in the martial arts. All of these are somewhat iconoclastic questions. Yet I'm going to ask another, here, that may be the most "outside the box" and tradition-busting, yet. Do martial arts programs create followers or leaders? If you ask this question outright, I'm sure 99% of dojo founders and managers would reflexively and emphatically respond with these words: "We produce LEADERS, of course! " But if you examine the experiences of most folks that go through the ranks in martial arts programs, and you observe the personality changes that occur, I believe you'll conclude otherwise.
Judo and BJJ Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Integration - My Story
Judo and BJJ: My story... In around 2001, I began to read about an online article on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Olympic level Judo players Dave and Dan Camarillo. I had recently begun training at a Thaiboxing orientated Mixed Martial Arts Club and had begun learning "groundwork". I really wanted to train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and here were these guys advocating mixing it with Judo. Well there was a lot of "bad press" on Judo within the MMA scene at the time; Judo apparently didn't work without a gi and everyone knew that you just took the back of any Judo player once they had done a dodgy head and arm throw! I eventually began training BJJ with Brazilian Top Team (BTT) and then continued this when I moved to StraightBlastGym (SBG).
Martial Artists Training Method of the Past
When it comes to sharpness and quickness in punching, there are many drills incorporated by many world class martial artists in today's day and age. Nearly all use weights to build strength in the muscles which can help punching speed, lots of people also punch with resistance, be it in water, whilst holding weights or with rubber bands pulling the arms backwards as they punch forwards. But how did great martial artists of the past work speed without some of these pieces of equipment. They used a piece of equipment that is thousands of years old. This piece of equipment is excellent for the simple facts that it is very easy to find, doses not cost much, and unlike bags, weights, etc, can be used almost anywhere where there's air.
Discover Your Animal
In Shuri-Ryu Karate, after attaining the rank of black belt, karateka are traditionally awarded a animal spirit. This animal spirit is based on character traits displayed by the karateka both before and after their promotion. There are many different animals used, but for this article we will limit them to the original Shaolin five. These animals include the snake, tiger, crane, leopard, and dragon. Identifying a karateka's animal is not just a trivial pursuit. The use of animal characteristics is an additional tool for identifying the strengths and weaknesses of both ourselves and others. Constant evaluation of ourselves and possible threats surrounding us is a key skill in being a thorough and effective martial artist.
