Bass Binoculars

There are many occasions in which I have found that angles just do not carry binoculars with them bass fishing. Binoculars are an indispensable and necessary piece of equipment for any fisherman as they allow you to get more information about the local habitat and surroundings than you could get with just your bare eye. It's not so much one's tackle that can make or break your chance at catching a bass, but rather too little information about the fish you are going after. By paying more attention to what's going on at the lake, one has a better chance of catching their prey. Sure you could just use any old pair of binoculars, just grab your grandpa's pair from his bookshelf, but like any other tackle, having the right pair is always optimal.

Hit and Run for Bass

For the past 33 years I have been on the lookout for an all around bass lure that can be used in the hundreds of ponds, park district and forest preserve lakes that surround my urban world called the Chicago land area and I have found it. I needed a bass lure that would be suitable for just about any bank fishing situation and one that can be carried in my pocket if need be. My current fast paced lifestyle forces me to be selective in the amount of time that can be dedicated to my favorite hobby and past time, bass fishing. When I see a new body of water I pull over, grab my medium action spinning rod that is rigged with a rabbit hair wacky worm, and cast for 15 minutes or so.

Ice Fishing In Ontario

Ontario is Canada's number one fishing destination. Ontario is an "Iriquoian" word meaning beautiful or shining waters. As Ontario has some 250, 000 lakes there is plenty of beautiful shiny water about. Most people know it as a fisherman's paradise in summer but don't forget it has a great winter season too. Why not consider ice fishing in Ontario this winter? Fishing in winter is more of an adventure holiday. For the Canadians it is an everyday event and no big deal to cut a hole in the ice and start fishing or to haul out an ice fishing hut and in comfort. For everyone reading who is not from North America you probably won't know much about ice fishing or ever have considered it for a winter holiday.

Trout Fishing Strategies

More than 20 years ago I had the pleasure of learning how to fish for trout from someone I consider to be a 'trout fishing master'. I consider him to be a master because of the fact that he caught trophy trout out of rivers and streams in Pennsylvania, that most anglers thought trout of that size didn't live in. He spent a lot of time on the water fishing for trout, and had many strategies and techniques that other anglers didn't employ. This man is gone now, but many of the trout fishing strategies that he taught me live on. The first thing he believed in was using ultra light gear when fishing for trout. I'm talking about four foot rods and very small reels, spooled with four pound test monofilament.

The Twisted Terminology of Fishing

If you are just getting into fishing, you can quickly become confused by some of the quarks in the terminology used. Here are some of the oddities that reveal you shouldn't take everything as it seems. Oddly, the first area of odd terminology is in the very classification of the person fishing. When you say a fisherman or fisherwoman, you probably picture a person with a rod and reel. In truth, any effort to capture a fish makes you one of these. If you throw dynamite into the local pond, you are a fisherman. So, are people who fish with just rods and reels called anything in particular? Yes. They are called anglers. Why? Because they are! Another area of head scratching can be bait.

Bass Fishing Tips for Sport and Leisure

There is something just magic about a day spent fishing. This is a fantastic time for everyone. I love the sport of fishing more than anything else in my life, even my spouse; and to me, the most wonderful form of fishing is bass fishing. How much fun is bass fishing; so exciting and yet so calming for your spirit. Keep your thinking caps on while bass fishing and also just hang loose while the fish size you up. Many pros and cons exist when you are talking about bass fishing; there is no middle ground in liking or disliking it... some folks just love it from the very beginning and others abhor it. It's very simple; yes or no type of thing. Having said all that, you may not understand right away if you are new to the sport, just how varied the sport of bass fishing can be.

Fishing In The Winter

Fishing in the winter can be a bit difficult. I don't know about you, but I've found that fishing in the winter is what we call a "challenge". I'm of course not referring to sitting on a frozen lake looking through a hole in the ice (ice fishing). What I'm referring to is fishing in the way we do at other times of the year, the only big differences being... the temperature and amount of daylight. What's interesting to me about fishing in the winter, is how much more difficult it is to catch fish. I know in the rivers and streams I fish in Montana, fishing slows down dramatically in the winter time. I have a theory as to why this happens. As the temperatures cool, so does the water temperature (obviously!

The Art Of Using A Live Worm To Catch A Trout

Many people may look at the title of this article and think to themselves, "The art of using a live worm? What the hell is this person talking about? ", and I can understand this, but to me using live worms to catch trout is as much of an art form as fly fishing has ever been proclaimed to be. The reason fishing with live worms isn't viewed this way is because so many people don't take fishing with live worms the least bit seriously. What do I mean by this? Let me give you an example. To most people, fishing with worms means that a single hook is attached to their line and a live worm is then "threaded" onto that hook in an attempt to make the worm look as realistic as possible.

Who Says Costs of Fishing in Canada Is A Problem?

Canada has some of the best options to go for a fishing holiday. There a lot of other activities that you can do in Canada, but nothing beats fishing. If you think that cost is a problem, it definitely is not and all you need is some information to allay your fears. 1. Less Costly Fly Fishing People are seeing reduction in costs of fishing particularly for fly fishing. For example, a 5-day trip for 4 anglers will cost about $140 per angler. This includes a river boat, complete with access pass, transportation to the river and back, riverside coffee, and a chance to explore the sceneries of Quebec, where fly fish are plenty. If you are planning for a similar trip with only 1 or probably 2 anglers, it will be more expensive.

Fly Fishing - It Hasn t Changed Much Over the Years

There is some evidence that the story of fly fishing starts in the ancient world, but it was in the cold and rocky streams of Scotland and Northern England that modern fly fishing began. Still, every story has to have a beginning. This tale most likely dates back thousands of years. Mankind began to fish for the same reasons they began to hunt. It was a matter of survival. Fish was food and for most of history, the pursuit of it was not so much sport as the need to eat. It stands to reason that any form of fishing that would be successful would have been discovered and tried out. There is an early reference in the travel writings of a Roman named Claudius Aelianus dating to the 2nd Century, AD that speaks of Macedonian fisherman using flies to catch meals from the Astraeus River.
